Why I Bought the Nike Vapor 12

I picked up the Nike Vapor 12 because I wanted a tennis shoe that feels agile and comfortable on court. Over the years, I’ve played in the Vapor 9.5, Vapor X, Vapor 11, and Vapor Pro, so I know how each model feels.
The Vapor Pro has been my favorite for its lightweight build and wrapping fit, but it can feel too firm at times. I was looking for a shoe that keeps the low-to-the-ground speed of the Vapors but adds more comfort.
When the Vapor 12 dropped, it immediately caught my eye.
First Impressions
When I first unboxed the Vapor 12, the minimalist black-and-white design stood out right away. It keeps the clean look that I liked from the Vapor Pro but feels a bit more refined.

On foot, it immediately felt more comfortable compared to the Pro. The tongue design is closer to the Vapor 9.5, which gives it a familiar, classic feel.
Comfort & Fit
The sizing feels true to size. My foot length is 265mm, and I went with my usual US 8.5 / EU 42—no issues at all.
On foot, the fit is comfortable but still has that wrapping feel that Vapors are known for. It’s not as firm as the Vapor Pro when you first put it on, but it’s still supportive enough for tennis movement.

One thing I don’t love is the regular throat design. The Vapor Pro’s side-lacing felt more locked-in, while this one is more standard.

The heel sits slightly higher than the forefoot, giving a forward-leaning feel. This helps with quicker reactions but may feel unusual at first.

Softer underfoot than the Vapor Pro, with a balance of comfort and responsiveness. Good for long sessions without feeling mushy.
On-Court Performance

Traction
The grip is a big upgrade over the Vapor 11. It feels secure without being overly sticky, which makes movement smooth and predictable.
Stability
The shoe stays stable during lateral cuts. The slightly higher heel adds a planted feel while still keeping you low to the ground.
Responsiveness
Like past Vapors, the 12 feels agile and quick off the mark. The lightweight build and low profile make it easy to change direction.
Lacing System
This is where I noticed a difference. The Vapor Pro’s locked-in side-lacing system kept the tongue in place and gave a very tight wrap. The Vapor 12 uses a regular lacing setup, so the tongue can slip a bit during play. It’s still comfortable, but the lockdown isn’t as secure.

Final Verdict – Should You Buy Them?
The Vapor 12 is priced higher than the Vapor Pro and Vapor 11 right now, so it may be worth waiting for a drop if you’re happy with your current pair.
For me, the upgrade was worth it. I wanted the agility of the Pro but with added comfort for longer play, and the Vapor 12 delivers that balance.
I also like the slightly higher heel, which makes reactions feel quicker without losing stability. If you value a mix of speed, comfort, and stability, the Vapor 12 is a strong choice.
