Tennis Lessons with SUNY Albany Assistant Coach

Hi Albany tennis players–

Hope all of you had a great summer!!! (I guess it is technically still summer, right? Mine just feels like it’s over since we are already getting back into the swing of things…sorry for the bad pun!)

Hey, if any of you are interested in pumping up your game with some private or semi-private lessons, my new assistant coach, Petra Ferancova, is here already and game for helping work on your game!! Petra is from Slovakia, by way of Mississippi State University. She played for three years and then was an assistant coach for one year with the Bulldogs. We are glad to have her now helping us bigger dogs…the GREAT DANES!! Petra will be pursuing her M.A. in Economics. I hope you all get a chance to meet her soon. Albany Tennis Club Open House

You are cordially invited to attend an afternoon of tennis at the Albany Tennis Club’s Annual Open House on Sunday, June 7, 2015 from noon to 3:00 p.m.

Larry Yakubowski, the club pro, and his staff will be on hand to welcome you, members and non-members alike, and facilitate what promises to be a very fun afternoon of tennis.

This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy tennis at one of the Capital Region’s premiere clay court clubs and to get to know other members of the tennis community. Everyone, from beginners to pros, is welcome to bring a friend or family member. And best of all, the event is FREE. All you need to bring is your racquet and tennis shoes.

While you are there, learn about ATC’s many programs and tennis offerings including lessons, come-and-play, tennis ladders, special events such as field trips to the Tennis Hall of Fame on July 14th and annual tennis tournaments.

Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum and HOF Championship

Ray Koloski is planning a one day trip to Newport, RI on July 14. In addition to stadium seats to the tournament, we will be treated to a guided tour of the newly renovated Tennis Hall of Fame and museum. There may also be a chance to hit a few balls on the grass.

· Among the participants are John Isner, Ivo Karlovic, Sam Querrey and Jack Sock.
· We will be travelling in a 35-passenger luxury liner with 9 DVD screens and a bathroom.
· We will leave at 7:30 am from the Latham Farms parking lot opposite Sam’s Club. We will return at approximately midnight.
· We may travel past some of the mansions in Newport.
· Limited to 35. A timely response would be appreciated.

This is a unique opportunity to see current tennis stars as well as historic tennis lore.

Zambia Orphan Tennis Fundraiser – June 6th at Shenendehowa

Join us at the Shen High School tennis courts Saturday, June 6th from noon to 3:30pm for a fun opportunity to raise money for young and impoverished orphans in Zambia, Africa (see video below). All ages and abilities are welcome and lunch and awards will be provided. There is no required dollar amount to participate but instead, please donate whatever you feel is appropriate the day of the event. Checks payable to “Family Legacy Missions International”.

Capital District Summer Flex League Registration

Are you extremely busy during the summer? Do you like to play tennis on your own schedule! If so, the Flex League is a great choice for you! The Flex League is an opportunity to get together and play competitive tennis at a time and place that works for you! Simply register by June 1st 2015. Play will begin on June 15th. After registration closes you will be able to log on to Tennislink and access the contact information for the players in the league so you can start playing! USTA Flex League

The Capital District Flex league is now open for registration. It will include singles play for level 3.0-4.5. The flex league offers players a more relaxed setting. For those who have never played in the flex league, here’s how it works. All players will receive contact info for their opponents on tennis link. Each player then schedules their own matches (usually through email) at an agreed upon time and place with the opponent and reports the scores online. There are typically 6-8 matches to be played from September through early November. Players do not need to be USTA rated or members to play. Please see flyer for more information.

The Schenectady JCC on 2565 Balltown Rd. in Niskayuna will host 2 tennis events in May

On Monday, May 5th, from 5:45-8pm, is a mixed doubles progressive scramble. Format is progressive scramble, so players’ results will move them court to court to play with other players of similar abilities and change partners, so players sign up individually and play will be continuous. Level of play between 3.0-5.0. Cost is $10 per player, $8 for SJCC members. Deadline is sunday, may 4th.

On Sunday, May 18th, from 10a-1:30p, is the ‘Triple Threat’ Round Robin. Format is 1/2 hour of womens/mens singles, followed by 1hr of mens/womens doubles, followed by 1hr of mixed doubles. Singles, Doubles and Mixed doubles format is round robin with rotating partners, so players sign up individually and play will be continuous. Levels 3.0-5.0. Cost is $16 per player, $12 for SJCC members. Deadline is Friday, May 16th.

Draws are unsanctioned, meaning no tennis memberships (usta, etc.) are necessary. Players can sign up by calling Tom Bain at 527-7731 or emailing him at

TEACHING PRO NEEDED. Voorheesville(Albany), NY. Colonie Golf & Country Club.

This is a commission based position for lessons, clinics and events with an additional flat rate for proshop coverage and basic hartru court maintenance.

Pro must be able to do Cardio Tennis classes (a must!), group and private lessons. Stringing a plus. We run a number of USTA adult prize money tournaments as well as regular adult and junior tournaments, interclubs, holiday events, etc. Looking for a pro that is energetic and interested in developing and building their own programs as well. Nonmembers are allowed to take lessons so if you already have a following bring them! We have 8 Hartru courts. We are currently developing new programs that I would like this candidate to run with.

Seasonal position Memorial Day – Labor Day, can begin sooner and stay later, but that is the primary season. Courts open end of April and close October. Commission percentages depend on experience.
